The UX Designer not only creates the details of an appealing, intuitive, and social UI, but also drives innovation in product development through customer conversations, prototyping, and testing.

Responsibilities and Deliverables

The UX Designer is proficient in doing the following:

Design & Architecture

Design for user adoption, engagement, retention, and referral in an online collaboration platform that leverages social network effects.
Design an engaging experience for a software space that integrates information discovery, data analysis, and collaborative task completion.
Translate business concepts into wireframes, mockups, icons, and images that lead to intuitive user experiences on mobile, web, and other platforms.
Devise innovative design solutions that delight users and accomplish business objectives within engineering and budget constraints.
Rapidly iterate designs based on user feedback and testing.
Understand and apply UX heuristics and best practises.
Understand and balance requirements for usefulness, ease of use, aesthetics, discoverability, findability, learnability, and efficiency within a single product.
Apply platform UX style requirements such as material design, iOS Human Interface Guidelines, etc.
Design and produce visual assets such as icons, illustrations, and photos as required.
Reinforce brand through a visual language that includes color, type, layout, and motion.
Understand and apply principles of contrast, repetition, alignment, proximity in UI design.
Articulate and communicate evidence-based design rationale based on HCI and social science research.
Review designs and provide feedback and guidance to other team members.
Participate in the development of information hierarchies and structures for a large information space that align with user models, convey information scent, and facilitate information retrieval and understanding.
The ability to write meaningful UI text such as menus, dialogs, error messages is an asset.


Participate in both qualitative and quantitative UX research activities.
Participate in, organize, and document UX research and testing activities such as user interviews, job shadowing and ethnography, usability testing, card sorting, etc.
Review analytics data from web and mobile using tools like Google Analytics, New Relic, Flurry, Mixpanel for unstructured analysis and A/B tests.
Review click paths and user flows to derive insights that will deliver improved user adoption, engagement, retention, and referral.
Complete competitive and comparative analysis based on advanced web and database searches.


Document and maintain UX style standards.
Contribute to business-driven UX strategy development and promotion.
Contribute to UX process development and integration with product and engineering processes

Organizational Alignment

Reports to the Director of User Experience with executive support of the Chief Product Officer.
Partners with internal stakeholders in product, engineering, sales, services, and marketing to complete projects and deliver innovative products.

Strong listening and interviewing skills.
An ability to identify business problems and solve them with UX design.
Evaluates business value against UX and development effort.
Intuitive ability to delineate between well-executed and poorly-executed visual designs and predict effectiveness of corrective measures.
Proactive time management skills and the ability to meet deadlines.
Comfortable flowing with change and provoking it when needed.
Excellent English writing skills an asset

Technical Competencies

Proficient in using tools like Photoshop, Invision, Balsamic, Sketch, etc. for UX design.
Proficient in producing UX assets such as icons and graphics with tools like Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator.
Familiarity with HTML, CSS, JavaScript, React.js/Native an asset.


Experience in designing for user adoption, engagement, and retention a strong asset.
3 – 6 years in a UX role.
Experience working with Scrum or other Agile teams an asset.


Bachelor’s degree, diploma, or post-secondary training in a UX related area such as design, HCI, computer science, or social science.
Master’s in UX an asset.
