Position Overview

This position encompasses all elements of UX Research done right, both qualitatively and quantitatively. Starting with discovery through ethnographic field research, focus groups, click-path and heat-map analytics, and moving to verification in usability testing and related UX testing.

The UX Researcher not only informs the design of an appealing, intuitive, and social UI, but also drives product innovation through customer conversations, observation, analysis, and testing.

Responsibilities and Deliverables

The UX Researcher is competent in doing the following:


Execute both qualitative and quantitative UX research activities.
Promote, organize, script, facilitate, and document UX research and testing activities such as user interviews, job shadowing and ethnography, usability testing, card sorting, etc.
Review and report analytics data for web and mobile using tools like Google Analytics, New Relic, Flurry, Mixpanel, for unstructured analysis and A/B tests.
Analyze click paths and user flows to derive insights that will deliver improved user adoption, engagement, retention, and referral.
Report research results to stakeholders in an unbiased but persuasive manner.
Complete competitive and comparative analysis based on advanced web and database searches.
Articulate and communicate evidence-based research methodology rationale based on HCI, social science, and data research best practises.
Design & Architecture

Inform UX design for user adoption, engagement, retention, and referral in an online collaboration platform that leverages social network effects.
Inform the design of an engaging experience for a software space that integrates information discovery, data analysis, and collaborative task completion.
Participate in the development of information hierarchies and structures for a large information space that align with user models, convey information scent, and facilitate information retrieval and understanding.
Suggest useful and meaningful UI text for menus, dialogs, error messages.
Understand and apply UX heuristics and best practises.
Review designs and provide feedback and guidance to other team members.

Document and maintain UX research processes.
Contribute to business-driven UX strategy development and promotion.
Contribute to UX process development and integration with product and engineering processes.
Organizational Alignment

Reports to the Director of User Experience with executive support of the Chief Product Officer.
Partners with internal stakeholders in product, engineering, sales, services, and marketing to complete projects and deliver innovative products.

Comfortable flowing with change and provoking it when needed.
Technical Competencies

Expert competency in spreadsheet data analysis.
Familiarity with UX prototyping tools like Photoshop, Invision, Balsamic, Sketch, etc. an asset.
Familiarity with HTML, CSS, JavaScript an asset.

Experience in measuring user adoption, engagement, and retention a strong asset.
1 – 5 years in a UX role.
Experience working with Scrum or other Agile teams an asset.

Bachelor’s degree, diploma, or post-secondary training in a UX-research related area such as social science, psychology, anthropology, library science, computer science, or HCI.
Master’s in UX an asset.
